The Enterprise crew must help them escape to thwart a conspiracy aimed at sabotaging the last best hope for peace. After an explosion on their moon, the Klingons have an estimated 50 years before their ozone layer is completely depleted, and they all die. They have only one choice - to make peace with the Federation, which will mean an end to 70 years of conflict. Captain James T. Kirk and crew are called upon to help in the negotiations because of their experience with the Klingons. Peace talks don't quite proceed, and Kirk and McCoy are convicted of assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor, and imprisoned on Rura Penthe, a snowy hard-labor prison camp. MORE INFO ON WILLIAM SHATNER: Handsome Canadian-born actor who - despite his detractors - has notched up an impressive 50-years-plus in front of the camera, most recently displaying comedic talent, and being instantly recognizable to several generations of cult TV fans as the square-jawed Capt. James T. Kirk, commander of the starship USS Enterprise.

Shatner spent many years honing his craft in TV and live theater before ing alongside in (1958). He was kept busy during the 1960s in films such as (1962) and (1961) and on television guest-starring in dozens of shows such as (1955), (1961), (1963) and (1959). In 1966 Shatner boarded the USS Enterprise for three seasons of (1966), co-starring alongside , with the series eventually becoming a bona-fide cult classic with a worldwide legion of fans known as "Trekkies".

After "Star Trek" folded, Shatner spent the rest of the decade and the 1970s making the rounds guest-starring on many prime-time TV shows, including (1968), (1969) and (1967). He has also appeared in several feature films, but they were mainly B-grade (or lower) fare such as the embarrassingly bad Euro western (1968) (aka The White Comanche) and the campy (1977). However, the 1980s saw a major resurgence in Shatner's career with the renewed interest in the old (1966) television series culminating in a series of big-budget "Star Trek" feature films including (1979), (1982), (1984), (1986), (1989) and (1991). In addition, he starred in the lightweight cop series (1982) from 1982 to 1986, alongside spunky , and surprised many fans with his droll comedic talents in (1982), (1993) and (2000).

MORE INFO ON LEONARD NIMOY: Raised in a Boston tenement, acting in community theaters since age eight, didn't make his Hollywood he was 20, a bit part in (1951) and another as a ballplayer in the perennial (1951). After two years in army he was still getting small, often uncredited parts - an army telex operator in (1954), for example - but his part as Narab, a Martian finally friendly to Earth, in the closing scene in the corny Republic serial (1952), somewhat foreshadowed the role which would make him a household name--Mr. Spock, the half-human/half-Vulcan science officer of (1966) one of TV's all-time most successful series. His performance won him three Emmy nominations and launched his career as a writer and director, notably of (1986), the story of a humpback whale rescue that proved the most successful of the Star Trek movies.
